Beyond the Bikes: How the Broken Spoke Saloon and Magnolia Cafe are Fighting Hunger in Central Texas

As you drive down the dusty roads of Texas, you may come across a biker’s paradise known as the Broken Spoke Saloon. This iconic establishment has been serving up cold beer and good times since 1964 and has become a staple in the Texas biker community. But beyond the rowdy atmosphere and live music performances, the Broken Spoke Saloon also has a heart for giving back to the community.

In fact, the saloon has been a longtime supporter of the Central Texas Food Bank, a non-profit organization dedicated to fighting hunger in the region. According to the food bank’s website, one in seven people in Central Texas struggle with food insecurity, and the organization relies heavily on donations and volunteers to help provide meals to those in need.

That’s where the Broken Spoke Saloon comes in. The establishment hosts numerous charity events throughout the year, with proceeds going directly to the Central Texas Food Bank. One such event is the Annual Lone Star Rod & Kustom Round Up, a car show and music festival that has raised over $1 million for the food bank since its inception in 2001.

But it’s not just the Broken Spoke Saloon that is doing their part to fight hunger in Central Texas. Magnolia Cafe, a beloved diner with locations in Austin and Round Rock, has also been a longtime supporter of the Central Texas Food Bank. In fact, the diner has a “Hunger is Unacceptable” program, where customers can add a donation to their bill to help support the food bank’s efforts.

Magnolia Cafe also hosts an annual Thanksgiving fundraiser, where all proceeds from the day’s sales go directly to the Central Texas Food Bank. According to the diner’s website, the event has raised over $140,000 for the food bank since it began in 2000.

The unifying idea between these three establishments is their dedication to giving back to the community. Whether it’s through hosting charity events or implementing donation programs, the Broken Spoke Saloon, Central Texas Food Bank, and Magnolia Cafe all recognize the importance of supporting those in need.

As we navigate through these challenging times, it’s important to remember that there are still those who struggle to put food on the table. By supporting organizations like the Central Texas Food Bank and establishments like the Broken Spoke Saloon and Magnolia Cafe, we can all do our part in helping to alleviate hunger in our communities.
